The Follow-Up Question

Apr 18, 2022

In this episode, I finally get to have the conversation that I've wanted to have ever since I first heard the question, "How can you hate me if you don't even know me?"

Daryl Davis is a black man who has asked that question of hundreds of Ku Klux Klan members and other white supremacists, including Jeff Schoep, the former leader of the National Socialist Movement who left that life behind several years ago. Jeff was a guest on this show back in episode 57, and it was through conversations with Daryl that he finally came to understand that his worldview was wrong.

Daryl has been the driving force for hundreds of people to leave the KKK and other white supremacist groups, not through coercion or force or ridicule, but through curiosity and understanding and non-judgmental conversation.

Conversations like this one with Daryl are the reason I started this show, and I hope that by listening to it, you feel the full effect of what Daryl's approach to conflict resolution could have if we all followed his lead.
